Why Use Stemless Wine Glasses

I will never forget the excitement I felt when I opened my first box of Lenox crystal wine glasses. They were just so pretty. I also will never forget the disappointment when we broke the first one. Simply washing it by hand was enough to just pop the top right off the stem. We used them so often that this was a relatively common occurrence. This is when I realized with needed to start using stemless wine glasses for our everyday drinking.

More restaurants are even turning to stemless glasses. They are easier to transport, store, and clean. They are perfect for small kitchens and small apartments. Stemless wine glasses also make great gifts for the klutzy wine lover in your life. They also can be used for cocktails too.

Best Gifts For Wine Lovers

And, stemless glasses are also great for entertaining. I will never forget the wine and cheese party we hosted at our condo in Chicago. It ended with us renting a carpet cleaner for all of the people who knocked over glasses of red wine onto our beige carpet. It’s a lot more difficult to knock over a stemless glass.

As for the proper wine snobs out there, some of the top wine glass companies in the world are producing stemless wine glasses now. They are even producing lines specifically for BurgundyBordeaux, Chardonnay, and more.

Stem Vs. Stemless Wine Glasses

Some people still think that to properly drink wine, you need to have a proper glass, with a stem and all. I have to say I still love a large wine goblet with high-quality red wine, one that I can sink my nose into. But, these are not necessarily practical for everyday drinking. In the end, the debate between stemless wine glasses vs stem wine glasses really comes down to preference.

Stemless glasses tend to look more modern, contemporary, and stylish. They are shorter, which makes them sturdy and more durable. They are less likely to fall over or break during washing. Some of them can even be stacked, so they are easier to store.

As for the complaints of the wine snobs out there, holding a stemless red wine glass in the palm can actually warm the wine to release the aromas and flavors. Of course, the opposite is true when drinking white wine. Read our recommendations on how to keep white wine chilled

RIEDEL STEMLESS WINE GLASSES

Even the world-famous Robert Parker loves Riedel glasses. The Austrian company started producing high-quality glassware over a generation ago. They were one of the first companies to produce quality stemless glasses in 2004 while paying attention to the shape of the glass for the style of wine.

Stemless Riedel wine glasses are made of break-resistant crystal and are dishwasher-safe. The Riedel O Wine Tumblers come in a variety of styles, for both red wine and white wine. The set of 4 includes Riedel stemless red wine glasses and two white. They also have a set of six and a set of 8, but those only come in either red or white, not a combination.

SCHOTT ZWIESEL STEMLESS WINE GLASSES

For something in a more contemporary style, Schott Zwiesel Tritan Crystal Glass is made in Germany. This stemless wine glass set comes with six 15-ounce glasses. The set is made specifically for Burgundy wine, but Schott Zwiesel also produces a stemless Bordeaux style, which is a little taller and can be used for white wine as well. Both sets of stemless red wine glasses make the perfect gift.

Schott Zwiesel is known for its Tritan crystal glass, which is a non-lead-based glass made of titanium and zirconium oxide. This makes it look like and act like crystal, but it resists breakage, chipping, and scratching making it a worthwhile investment for any wine drinker.

LENOX STEMLESS TUSCANY WINE GLASSES

These Lenox Tuscany Classic Stemless Wine Glasses are part of the Lenox Tuscany collection of wine glasses and barware. As much as we owned some Riedel wine glasses before leaving the US, the bulk of our crystal collection was from the Tuscany line.

This set of six 12 ounce stemless wine glasses is not only dishwasher safe, but I love the design. They take things up a notch from the Riedel glasses above with the little notch in the bottom. Not only does this look nice, but can also help to aerate the wine, which can be a little more difficult in a stemless glass.

The Mikasa Cheers Etched Stemless Wine Glasses are a little bit more fun compared to other wine glasses. This set includes six unique stemless wine glasses, each with a different design. They are a good size too, holding 17 ounces of wine.

These beautiful stemless wine glasses can be used for entertaining, wine, and cocktails. Because they are durable enough they can also be used for juice and everyday drinks. This makes the Mikasa Cheers set a perfect gift too.
